This poster is one of a set of five prepared by ACHR in 2002, to showcase the variety of on-site community upgrading initiatives around Asia.

This publication describes some of the early community toilet projects undertaken by the SPARC / Mahila Milan / National Slum Dwellers Federation alliance in India. These projects in Bombay, Kanpur and Banglalore were the first experiments in what became a national movement of community-built and community-managed sanitation in India.

This bilingual newsletter (English and Bahasa) was jointly produced by ACHR and the Urban Poor Consortium in Jakarta, and got its debut at the "Second Asia People's Dialogue" which took place in Jakarta, in September 2002. Uplink (Urban Poor Linkage Indonesia) was at that time a new network of grassroots groups and their supporters across Indonesia working to find collective solutions to big problems of urban poverty and housing.
