This is the first newsletter of the Urban Community Development Office (UCDO) in Thailand, published in June 1997. In 2000, UCDO was merged with the Thai Government's Rural Development Fund to become CODI - the Community Organizations Development Institute.

This historic publication describes in detail the process of negotiating, designing and constructing one of Thailand's early land sharing housing projects, at the Sengki community in central Bangkok. The project was awarded the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honor and chosen to be a demonstration project for the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless in 1991.

This article, by Somsook Boonyabancha and Solly Angel, was originally published in 1988, in the Third World Planning Review. It describes several of the pioneering land sharing projects in Bangkok, in which Somsook played a key role. That was long before either CODI or UCDO had been set up, when Somsook was a young architect and planner working at the National Housing Authority in Bangkok.

This historic article by Somsook Boonyabancha describes a few of the very early land sharing projects in Bangkok - especially the project in the Wat Lad Bua Kao community. This article was printed in the Open House International Quarterly Journal, Vol. 11, No. 1, 1986.

This article about evictions in Bangkok was written by Somsook in 1983, and was published as a chapter in the book "Land for Housing the Poor".  The article came out of a historic field study on evictions that she and a team of colleagues undertook, when she was working at the National Housing Authority.
