The Passing of Jockin Amputham and the formation of the Asian Community Development Fund
From Somsook: I have very sad news to share today that our great friend “Jockin Arputham” President of Shack Dwellers International has passed away early morning Oct 13. Jockin is a Guru, a leader, a teacher, community organizer, inspirer and greatest change makers for housing and development by poor people themselves in India Asia and the world. It’s a great lost to all urban poor federations SDI ACHR UPCA and all housing development communities around the world
On behalf of ACHR we would like to share with you all our deep condolence and believe his strong will and spirit to make all changes possible by people especially poor people organizations will be achieved and progressed

On the same day Jockin has passed away, here in Bangkok, it happened to be the last day of our Asia Hub Meeting, an ACHR/SDI joint event which we jointly agreed to se up the “Asian Community Development Fund” as regional fund to support community driven development initiatives in Asia. National community organizations from 9 Asian countries namely the Philippines Cambodia Nepal Indonesia Myanmar Pakistan Bangladesh Srilanka and Thailand. Community members of all ground federations in these countries will contribute 1 US$ per year to the fund voluntarily together with funding from contributions and donations from countries and donors. The inauguration of this ACF has been initially announced at the end of the Asia Hub Meeting today. A team of regional coordinators
Ruby Haddad, Celine D’Cruz, Vanliza and Minh Chau will work with all country teams to draft details for all community organizations and networks consideration very soon.
